SUSTAINABLE HOUSING DEPARTMENTSustainable Housing provides On-Reserve housing services for
members in a sustainable manner. This includes
providing the infrastructure, adding to the housing stock, and
managing rental accommodation.
In recent years it has also taken on responsibility for the
$50 million Mould Remediation Program. This
program administers the renovation or replacement of virtually
every home on the Reserve. The rate of respiratory
disease was so high amongst Cowichans, primarily as a result of
mould-infested homes, that a public health emergency was declared
in 1998.
