SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Social Development provides financial support to adults and
dependents that are unable to meet their basic needs.
In particular, Social Development:

Administers social assistance payments directly to members.

Administers guardian financial assistance.

Administers the National Child Benefit Supplement.

Provides supplies for clients who find employment.

Provides supplies and fees for students attending Adult Learning
and Adult Basic Education.

Funds various programs for women and children.
-
Refers people to other Cowichan Tribes' services such as
Education, Health, and Children and Families.

Connects people with outside agencies such as Human Resources
Development Canada and the Ministry of Children and
Families.
An Administrator with two Financial Assistance
Workers administer the program. Revenue
comes from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) through the
Comprehensive Funding Agreement.
